Frequently asked questions

Does RentBase work for landlords outside of Ontario?

Yes. RentBase is designed for Canadian landlords in every province and territory. All features use CRA T776 categories, Canadian dollars, and kilometres. Some features like RTA-compliant rent receipts are Ontario-specific, but expense tracking, CCA, mileage, and T776 reporting work identically anywhere in Canada.

Can I import my existing spreadsheet?

Yes. The Excel and CSV import wizard walks you through mapping your columns to RentBase fields, handles date normalization, and previews everything before it touches your data. Most landlords migrate from their spreadsheet in under 30 minutes.

Is the AI receipt scanning required?

No. AI receipt scanning is entirely optional. You can upload receipts and enter the details manually. The AI is available on Pro and Business as a time-saver, with 30 scans per month on Pro and 300 on Business.

Where is my data stored?

All application data is stored in Canadian data centres in Ontario. Tenant contact information is encrypted at rest using AES-256-GCM. The only data that ever leaves Canadian infrastructure is receipt images, and only when you explicitly use the optional AI scanning feature.

Does RentBase handle Capital Cost Allowance (CCA)?

Yes. Every plan includes a full CRA T776 report with Area A Capital Cost Allowance. You can add capital assets with the correct CRA class, the declining-balance calculation runs automatically, and rental loss restrictions are enforced. Pro and Business can save multi-year CCA schedules for UCC carry-forward.

What if I only have one property?
